Anime Series Like Naruto

In years past, the Hidden Leaf ninja village of Konoha was attacked by the deadly nine-tailed fox, Kyuubi. In order to save his village and its people, the Forth Hokage sacrificed his life to seal Kyuubi into a newly-born infant.

Years later, that same infant, Naruto Uzumaki, is grown up, but shunned by his village for the curse sealed inside him. However, energetic and determined as ever by his lonely upbringing, Naruto aims high – to become Hokage of the Hidden Leaf village of Konoha. Along the way, his attitude will bring him friends in spades, but also some of the world’s deadliest enemies.

For those who can’t get enough of the Naruto anime, could you find comfort in these anime recommendations?

For Fans of Ninjas

Nabari no Ou

Although overshadowed by Naruto, Nabari no Ou provides some excellent ninja action that ultimately knew when it should reasonably end rather than just going on, and on, and on. Both main characters from the series have something innately evil sealed inside them, but Nabari no Ou features more realistic ninja action without as much of the flash.

Basilisk

Basilisk is for the Naruto fans that eventually grew up. Where as Naruto started fun and energetic, and eventually grew more mature, Basilisk starts mature from the get-go. Like Naruto, Basilisk centers around two feuding clans of ninja, with each member with their own distinct style of fighting. Dark and tragic, Basilisk provides ninja action that is both interesting and affecting.

For Fans of Lengthy Action-Adventure Series

Fairy Tail

With a balance of comedic breaks and flashy action, most Fairy Tale fans began as fans of Naruto. Viewers often get the same feeling watching both shows in no small part due to the similar main characters. Where Naruto follows ninjas, Fairy Tale follows mages.

One Piece

Part of the Shounen Big Three alongside Naruto, many fans will feel right at home making the jump to One Piece. Following a group of pirates on their search for treasure, One Piece is often as funny as its fights are epic. Like with Naruto, each pirate feels unique in both their design and fighting styles. One Piece is also a lengthy series so while it may take awhile to catch up, it still shows no sign of ending soon.

Bleach

As the final entry into the Shounen Big Three with One Piece and Naruto, Bleach is another fine alternative to Naruto. Focusing on Shinigami, or Soul Reapers, Bleach is about Ichigo, a kid who can see ghosts. His unique power leads him into worlds unseen filled with powerful Soul Reapers and all manner of unique creatures that walk the line of enemy and ally. Unfortunately, for those who thought Naruto’s fights were drawn out, Bleach is worse. With the anime in permanent limbo as the manga chugs forward, anime fans may run into a dead end with this series.

Hunter X Hunter

Don’t be fooled by the older animation style in Hunter X Hunter. Although often overlooked, for fans of action anime, there is no series finer. The story follows Gon, a young boy that is searching for his father and aspires to become a Hunter in order to find him. However, in order to enjoy the privileges that Hunters enjoy, one must pass a difficult test with a low success rate. Hunter X Hunter follows Gon and those he meets along his way to become a Hunter. Be prepared for fast-paced intense action scenes that can put other anime to shame.

For Fans of Determined Main Characters

My Hero Academia

Both Naruto Uzumaki and Izuku Midoriya have life goals. Naruto wants to be Hokage and Izuku wants to be a hero despite being super powerly disabled. Both are energetic and willing to work hard for their goals. They also are a good mix of silly and serious.

Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple

Both Kenichi and Naruto start off their stories sucking pretty hard. Naruto is a pretty weak ninja and Kenichi could use some work on his martial arts. However, over the course of both stories, we see the main characters “level up,” so to speak until they are one of the strongest in the story.
