Jessica Cruz Joins DC Super Hero Girls in New Comic Series

DC Comics has announced a 12-part, digital-first DC Super Hero Girls comic series starring Green Lantern Jessica Cruz.

Titled DC Super Hero Girls: Spaced Out, the new series from Shea Fontana and Agnes Garbowska sees the fan-favorite GL make her first-ever trip to Oa (the headquarters of the Green Lantern Corps), in a space-faring adventure that she’ll make with some of her best buds from Super Hero High. The comic will also boast an Earth-bound story centering on Krypto the Super-Dog.

“Jessica Cruz is the new girl at Super Hero High, and the newest Green Lantern of Earth,” teases an official press release. “And if she thought learning how to control her powers was scary, she now must report to Oa to meet the rest of the Green Lantern Corps. Luckily, some of her new friends are willing to make the trip with her, but they never would have expected that they would be coming up against some of the biggest threats in the galaxy! Meanwhile, the earthbound students are faced with their own challenge — pet-sitting Krypto the Super-Dog, Supergirl’s adorable and feisty Kryptonian pup.”

On Monday, November 13 at 3pm PST, fans can join a special Facebook Live broadcast on the DC Kids page to get more details on the new series, directly from Fontana and Garbowska. You can submit questions by commenting on the DC Kids Facebook post, or by using #AskDCSuperHeroGirls via Twitter.

Jessica Cruz was created by Geoff Johns and Ethan Van Sciver for The New 52’s Justice League #31. Now a starring character in her own Green Lanterns title, alongside fellow New 52 creation Simon Baz, the character has gone on to play a major role in the DCU. She’s set to be a main character on the Cartoon Network DC Super Hero Girls animated series.

While no live-action plans have been announced for Jessica Cruz (so far), she is one of the many DC characters that appear in the DC Films intro, that debuted with Wonder Woman, which plays before each entry in the DC Extended Universe. If she does appear in a DCEU film, the most likely candidate is the Green Lantern Corps movie, currently slated for a 2020 release.

DC Super Hero Girls: Spaced Out launches digitally on Monday, November 20. Releasing bi-weekly, the series can be purchased via the DC Comics App, readdcentertainment.com, iBooks, comiXology, Google Play, Kindle Store and Nook Store.
