News Keiji Kawaguchi's Zipang: Shinsō Kairyū Historical Manga Ends
Manga about Genpei War launched in 2012

This year's 51st issue of Kodansha's Morning magazine published the final chapter of Keiji Kawaguchi's Zipang: Shinsō Kairyū manga on Thursday.

The manga's story centers on the Genpei War, the 12th-century conflict between the rival Minamoto and Taira clans for Imperial control. The war eventually reshaped Japanese society to favor the samurai and led to the establishment of Japan's first shogunate in its aftermath.

Kawaguchi launched the manga in Morning in 2012. Kodansha published the manga's 19th compiled book volume on June 23 and will publish the 20th volume on November 22. The manga is unrelated to Kawaguchi's earlier time-traveling war manga Zipang, which he also drew in Morning until 2009.

Kawaguchi is currently drawing the Kūbo Ibuki (Aircraft Carrier Ibuki) manga in collaboration with journalist Osamu Eya. The manga launched in Shogakukan's Big Comic magazine in December 2014. Shogakukan published the manga's seventh volume on July 28 and will release the eighth on November 30.

Viz Media published Kawaguchi's political manga Eagle in North America. Central Park Media released the naval anime special The Silent Service inspired by Kawaguchi's manga, and Geneon Entertainment (USA) released the Zipang television anime.
