Doomsday Clock #1: DC Announces Second Printing

DC Comics’ long-awaited Doomsday Clock #1, by Geoff Johns and Gary Frank, is already receiving a second printing.

According to the publisher, more than 1,000 comic book stores across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom held special events just before midnight Tuesday, corresponding with the time displayed on the Doomsday Clock on the cover of the first issue. Johns appeared at Gotham Central Comics and Collectibles in Toronto for a release party and signing session.

“Doomsday Clock is unlike anything that we have ever done before,” Johns said in a statement, “and both Gary and I are incredibly overwhelmed by the support that the fans have shown leading up to the release.”

The 12-issue series brings the characters from Watchmen into the DC Universe for the first time. Johns and Frank have stated they are using the characters to comment on the state of the world in 2017. The series will have Superman take on Dr. Manhattan, who has been established as the architect behind the changes in the timeline of the universe that resulted in DC’s Rebirth.

“We know the bar is set high for fans of Watchmen,” Frank added, “and we aren’t going into it thinking we can match the best comic of all time. But, we are confident that we have something pretty special and we are anxious for fans to finally have the first issue in hand and see where we are taking this story.”

Doomsday Clock is available now from DC Comics.
