Jim Lee Draws Goku From Dragon Ball For the First Time

DC Comics Co-Publisher and comic book artist Jim Lee has found time in his extremely busy schedule to stream sketches on his Twitch channel. His latest creation over the weekended marked the first time Lee ever illustrated Dragon Ball‘s Saiyan hero, Goku.

Overlooking the small typo, Lee shared this message to go along with his black-and-white Goku illustration: “Here’s what I streames this morning: my first (and only) Goku ;)”

Lee’s skillful pencil work is on display as Goku uses all of his Saiyan might to slam his left fist into the ground, causing rocks and debris to fly up into the air. Goku has a look of determination on his face, as he prepares to face off against whatever opponent awaits just off the edge of the page. For those aware of Goku’s fighting exploits in the anime franchise and its various iterations, they have the utmost confidence that Goku has a pretty good chance of being named the victor.

Goku was created by the Japanese artist Akira Toriyama and first appeared as a young boy in 1984’s Dragon Ball chapter #1. Lee didn’t mention if he’s a fan of either Toriyama or Dragon Ball, but the amount of detail he put into the final product — and the time commitment to complete the illustration — at least shows he has an appreciation for the fan-favorite franchise.
