When Marvel Comics announced the Return of Wolverine miniseries from the Death of Wolverine creative team of writer Charles Soule and artist Steve McNiven, the publisher also revealed Logan’s Adamantium claws will heat up once popped from his skin. This understandably made a lot of fans nervous, but Soule promises these new abilities will be more nuanced, with science playing an important factor.

When asked if Wolverine’s hot claws will heat up the rest of his skeleton, Soule replied, “Great question. Answer: No, they do not. Putting a lot of science behind this.”

So for those keeping score at home, only Wolverine’s claws will heat up, with the rest of his Adamantium skeleton not overheating and burning his body from the inside out. It does raise the question of whether there are any more secrets to Logan’s heat claws, including how they came to manifest this new ability.

Marvel is billing Return of Wolverine as the final part of a trilogy that includes 2014’s Death of Wolverine and this year’s Hunt For Wolverine, with the latter spawning four miniseries investigating the disappearance of Logan’s corpse from its Adamantium tomb: Adamantium Agenda, Claws of a Killer, Mystery in Madripoorand Weapon Lost.
