BOOM! Studios’ Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Gets New Creative Team

There’s a new creative team coming to BOOM! Studios’ best-selling Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comic book continuation this September.

Following the conclusion of Shattered Grid, the epic Power Rangers crossover event by the original series writer Kyle Higgins with artist Daniele Di Nicuolo, writer Marguerite Bennett (Batwoman, Josie and the Pussycats) and artist Simone Di Meo take over the title as the new creative team. The duo take over the BOOM! ongoing series starting with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #31.

“I don’t want to misplace my metaphors here, but those are gonna be some really big shoes to fill,” Bennett said in an interview with ComicBook.com. “Even though I can’t tell you what’s coming, I’m really hoping to keep the momentum, vigor, and emotion of everything that Kyle has set up on this careening course into this whole new world of possibilities.”

Higgins had launched the Power Rangers series in January 2016 with artist Daniel Bayliss in January 2016. Since then, the comic book series has gone to critical acclaim and commercial success culminating in this year’s Shattered Grid storyline which sees Power Rangers from across the multiverse uniting to save all of reality.

“When we were coming to the conclusion of Shattered Grid, Dafna and I had a conversation about what was gonna be coming next and the set up that I had developed for the aftermath of Shattered Grid based on some events that have happened in the series,” Higgins explained regarding his decision to leave the series. “We both talked about how it would be an opportunity for a baton pass. To build out some of this situation and status quo and let someone new come in and really take it in their own direction and make it their own. It just felt like the right time to step away.”

Shattered Grid has already proved to be a fan-favorite Power Rangers epic, promising on a cataclysmic change to the mythos including the deaths of beloved characters and the arrival of an evil Green Ranger. The event is slated to end this August with a special Shattered Grid one-shot.

“I was a huge Power Rangers fan growing up, I saved my toys for way too long way beyond age appropriate,” Bennett revealed. “I won’t lie it’s a dream come true. It’s such a cliché and so childish but so sincere, I can’t believe that I get to write for Power Rangers.”
