Bendis’ Superman Is Establishing A Major Part of Legion of Super-Heroes Lore

Following DC Rebirth, fans have slowly been getting more and more insight as to how the Legion of Super-Heroes is being integrated into a reset DC Universe. However, writer Brian Michael Bendis has indicated his Superman title will be building the foundation for them and the United Planets of the 31st century.

“I’m in the middle of a very long and epic Superman story called the Unity Saga,” Bendis said at a New York Comic Con panel celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Man of Steel. “And in the end, we’re establishing where the United Planets came from.”

The United Planets is a governing body composed of Earth and several other planets within the galaxy in DC’s future. Its capital is Metropolis and it also boasts a law enforcement agency there called the Science Police. It has played a crucial role in stories featuring Superman since his Adventure Comics days in the late ’60s, as well as in stories focusing on the Legion, whose members come from planets within the federation.

While Bendis remained secretive, his Superman tales haven’t outwardly linked or teased the Legion, which instead is being touched upon through narratives featuring the likes of Saturn Girl in Geoff Johns’ Doomsday Clock. However, if there’s anyone who can plug them from that comic into stories set in Metropolis, it’s Bendis.
