Anime Series Like Wise Man’s Grandchild

After being hit by a truck and killed, a young man was reincarnated into a new world as a baby. He was found and raised by a legendary sage named Merlin and given the name Shin. However, while Merlin taught him his skills and Shin grew in to an extremely powerful mage, living in the forest failed to teach Shin common sense and other people skills.

This is…an isekai for the Spring 2019 season. It has divisive opinions, but it is typically more of what you love to gobble up.

For Fans of Isekai’d in a Weird Way

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime

After a run in with a robber, the 37-year-old Satoru is suddenly killed. However, he finds himself able to reincarnate into a fantasy world as a slime named Rimuru Tempest. This allows him a fresh new life of adventure while being surrounded by a number of other unique beings.

Being sent to another world as a baby or as a slime does not seem practically beneficiary to the person it is happening to. However, in both shows you see the main character make the best of it in a variety of ways. They get crazy powerful, but have some distinct character flaws.

As the final hour approaches the life cycle of the MMO Yggdrasil, Momonga, a powerful wizard and leader of the dark guild Ainz Ooal Gown, is there to see it off. However, to his surprise, the servers don’t go down and even stranger is that all the NPC characters have come alive with their own unique personalities.

Both series feature a main character sent to another world in another form. They retain their memories from the previous world and it is this knowledge that helps them to navigate the world. However, Overlord features a main character with wild power right away while it needs to be learned in Wise Man’s Grandchild.

Saga of Tanya the Evil

Once one of Japan’s most elite salarymen, Tanya is reborn as a little girl with porcelain skin, blonde hair, and blue eyes after pissing off a mysterious being that calls himself God. Now she uses the memories and experience from her past life to spread terror on the front lines of war, becoming one of the most dangerous people in the imperial army.

In both series, a Japanese salaryman is reincarnated into a different world as a child. From there the series take wildly different routes, however. This is particularly true in tone. While Tanya has some funny moments, it does tend to air on a more serious side.

For Fans of Extra Overpowered Main Characters

In Another World With My Smartphone

In a blunder, God accidentally strikes down Touya Mochizuki. As an apology, he allows him one wish and the chance to live again in a magical fantasy world. He accepts, and uses his wish to be able to keep his smartphone when starting over.

While Wise Man’s Grandchild has the fact that he started as a baby to make it different, this series has the main character keep his smartphone. Regardless, aside from those two tweaks and minor differences in plot, these are pretty much the same.

How Not to Summon a Demon Lord

In his MMORPG, Takuma boast overwhelming strength and was referred to as the demon king. However, one day he gets summoned to another world, still in the appearance of his character. There he discovers two girls that use the same magic he uses to turn others into slaves. However, due to his magic reflect skill, the spell was turned back on them.

Both series are light-hearted isekai comedy with a bit of a twist added on to make it different from the rest. However, what these series have in common most is the main character. While they have different personalities, they are both very powerful and incredibly dumb at common sense issues.

Seven Deadly Sins

In this feudal world, the realm is protected from those who seek to spread their evil by the Holy Knights. However, in the kingdom of Liones, a small group of Holy Knights known as the Seven Deadly Sins sought to overthrown the king only to be driven off. Now, ten years later, the world hunts for the Seven Deadly Sins, but the Holy Knights have now turned their blades on the king and taken control of the kingdom. Now it is up to his third daughter, Elizabeth, to find the Sins and help them take back control.

Did you like the fact that Shin could just stop anything and everything without even trying? Then you’ll enjoy Seven Deadly Sins where the main characters are ridiculously overpowered. Obviously, it has points where this is challenged to make it interesting, but there is some impressive stomping.

For Fans of Mage Worlds

Knights & Magic

A mecha otaku has died and reincarnated into another world as Eru. In this world, he discovers massive humanoid weapons, and as an otaku in another life, simply must pilot them. Thus begins his quest to become a Knight Runner, the elite few who pilot these giant mech weapons.

Both series are isekai in which the main character is very strong compared to those around him. However, despite the distinct mecha bint in Knights & Magic, this is indeed a magical world in which visual effects get thrown around everywhere.

Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor

Sistine is a dedicated student at the magical academy where she hones her skills. She eventually hopes to solve the great mystery of the Sky Castle, but when he teacher retires, the replacement, Glenn, turns out to be a lazy bastard. How is it this incompetent man was hand-picked as the best magician in the academy?

While only Wise Man’s Grandchild is an isekai series, both of these shows are classified as what one would call magical comedy. They are light-hearted and funny, but when it comes time to throw down, there is some great magic to be seen.

The Irregular at Magic High School

After magic, once thought to be folklore, was turned into a technical skill, schools to teach it opened all over. At one such school are siblings Tatsuya and Miyuki Shiba. While Miyuki excels, her brother is placed in a lower class due to his seemingly magical ineptitude. However, he has rather unique abilities that make him quite irregular.

While Irregular at Magic High School differs from Wise Man’s Grandchild by having a modern setting and a non-isekai plot, it is very much a world of magic. If you enjoyed the flash and sizzle in Wise Man’s Grandchild, there is plenty in this series and a main character that is leaps and bounds more powerful than others.
