As you have hunted for a new place to live in the area, you may have seen ads for a townhouse to rent in Alameda. And you may have just skipped over it because you don’t know what it is and what that means. Townhouse? Apartments? Condos? You just want a place to live right?
But the truth is that a townhouse is more than just a name. In fact, it might be the best type of place for you to live. When you look at the facts and all that townhouses can bring you, you will see that it could be the perfect place to settle down and start the next chapter of your life.
So, what’s the difference between an apartment and a townhouse? Believe it or not, there are actually a few stark differences between the two!
Ownership: One of the main components of a townhouse is the ownership aspect. Townhouses are often individual units that are part of a row of houses or a complex. They often have shared walls with their neighbors, although the sound doesn’t usually come through.
Many townhouses can be bought, which is a great thing because they provide plenty of space and really feel like a smaller-sized house. Of course, this is different than apartments, which can rarely be purchased and are usually just rented or leased from month to month.
Space: As mentioned, there is a lot of space in a townhouse and they are usually quite a bit bigger than most regular, modern apartments. Most townhouses come with at least two floors, and sometimes a basement or an attic too. As you know, apartments might be two floors but they rarely have attics or basements.
Of course, apartments aren’t meant to be lived in forever and people usually move on to a new place after a few years of staying there. As for townhouses, people sometimes spend the rest of their lives there and even start families while staying at townhouses.
Privacy: Privacy is obviously a major concern for both people who live in apartments and townhouses. They want to be sure that everything they do or say isn’t shared with their neighbors.
In most apartments, privacy can be much more limited. You share your walls, your floors, and your ceilings with others.
When it comes to townhouses, you might share walls, but you have a lot more space and privacy is easier to come by. Although, to be fair, both apartments and townhouses now often have soundproofing walls to eliminate this problem or at least minimize it.
Townhouses and apartments are similar in many ways and either can be a wonderful choice for you. But, as you can see, they are not the same even though they have some commonalities.
