Saiki Kusou has a wide array of superpowers that include things like telepathy and telekinesis. He is so overpowers that he could, in fact, conquer the world in just a few days, but Saiki just wants to live a normal life. He dislikes his superpowers and does his best to hide them so he can live peacefully. It doesn’t go well. The Disastrous Life of Saiki K was one of those anime series that got overlooked in the summer season because it is one of those 5-minute episode series, but they show a new episode each day of the week. It is still running and many people abandoned it too early. However, if you give it a chance, it can be one of the most fun series you have seen all year. One of the many charms of “Astro City” is how Kurt Busiek uses it to tell stories on all sorts of subjects while still keeping it within the superhero genre. That’s the case with “Astro City” #35, where Busiek and Ron Randall delve into the history of multiple heroes who took the Jack-in-the-Box name. However, while this is a superhero story, it applies more broadly just as well. Strictly in terms of superhero trappings, Busiek’s script is strong. Busiek takes the time to showcase more about the different Jacks-in-the-Box and gives each hero an origin, while also exploring the different motivations and techniques of whoever’s behind the mask. From working solo to having others alongside, there are differences between each of the different characters involved.
