Michael Wm. Kaluta has been creating beautiful imagery for more than 40 years. Highlights of his career include what many consider to be the definitive version of The Shadow, the still in-progress Starstruck, and a myriad of stunning covers illustrated for nearly every comics publisher-as well as being part of the legendary art collective known simply as The Studio (along with Jeffery Catherine Jones, Barry Windsor-Smith, and Bernie Wrightson). This collection presents all five Kaluta sketchbooks published by IDW, featuring art selected by the artist from his personal archives-a cornucopia of delightful delineations and lovely line drawings by a true master of the form.

Next month marks a year since the loss of celebrated comic book artist Steve Dillon, the co-creator of DC/Vertigo’s Preacher and the illustrator of acclaimed stories in The Punisher, Hellblazer and 2000 AD. To mark his passing, a sketchbook in honor of his memory will be on sale next week at the New York Comic Con, featuring black-and-white pieces from 32 different artists and with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting The Hero Initiative, Dillon’s preferred charity. The character was Fawcett Comics’ most successful character — and the industry’s bestselling hero — throughout the 1940s and 1950s, and was eventually acquired by DC Comics.
