9 Completely Useless Anime Characters

When dealing with a large issue as a group, one tends to notice there will always be people that do not pull their weight or actually seem to be dragging the whole team down. This does not make them a bad or annoying person. It just helps you realize that you really don't want to depend on them when a serious moment comes.

This is not only seen in group projects for school but also in anime. There will always be characters that may be there for comic relief or as a plot device but they don't seem to do that much or accomplish anything major in the story, at times disappearing completely throughout half of the series.

Despite this, they brag constantly, show up only to sit around while everyone is fighting or struggling and don't care much about what is really going on. Here is our list of most useless characters in anime.

1. Excalibur from Soul Eater

Excalibur has immense power as a weapon, yet decides to be so high maintenance he becomes utterly useless and annoying. Nobody wants to have to deal with all his requests and rules so he ultimately just sits idly by the side of some of the biggest fights while he could be doing some amazing, heavenly damage.

2. Hercule from Dragon Ball Z

Supposedly the ultimate champion of the World Tournaments, it is really easy to see through the lies this fighter has. As soon as there is any real trouble, Hercule runs away cowering in fear or uses a stupid tactic to confuse the enemy for a second.

This does provide for great humor and entertaining scenes but I hate the fact that he still steals credit from defeating the enemy after Goku and his friends do all the work.

3. Shippo from Inuyasha

We know Shippo was a part of the series and shared moments with the rest of the lovable cast but there is no denying he cannot do anything in battle. There are some moments where it seems as if he is about to shine and do something worthwhile for the team but then breaks apart and tries to hide behind Kagome.

To be fair, he is a kid trying to deal with many things attempting to kill him and his friends but he should've had some more development and sense of bravery throughout the whole series.

4. Kon from Bleach

This is one of the funniest characters for me in Bleach right alongside Urahara and Ichigo's dad but I wish they had used him to do more than just be a puppet that takes care of Ichigo's body. He had courage and a somewhat strong sense of justice but fell apart for any woman, especially Rukia.

5. Yuki from Mirai Nikki

Yuki's naive personality and weak body don't really let him go very far, usually becoming a burden for the strong and amazing stalker we love, Gasai Yuno.

He did learn from his mistakes and strived to do better at the end of the series but there were far too many moments that he could have done something only to fall short and leave everyone disappointed.

6. Shido from Death Note

There are many strong and intelligent characters in Death Note that have extensive mind battles that completely astonish the viewer. Then, there's this guy. Shido just wanted to get his Death Note back but he was just too annoying and useless.

7. Hide from Tokyo Ghoul

We loved most of the cast from Tokyo Ghoul for their philosophical views of the world and how the humans and ghouls should live and interact. And from the very beginning that Hide was going to become an amazing and interesting character that would create an interesting plot twist that would leave everyone stunned.

Yet, all that he did was collect information until he finally saw his friend and just sort of... died. I wanted so much from this character and he was so mysterious but then he was just gone. It felt like a terrible letdown.

8. Nina from Code Geass

Nina loved Euphemia and suffered severely after her loss. That does not or rather should not become an excuse to how low she had gone and how she had put everyone else in danger.

She did not quite understand the things that were going on around her and felt too much like a burdened to be a character to empathize with. All I have to say for her is that she could have acted much better with the people around her.

9. Sakura from Naruto Shippuden

Many may argue that Sakura is unbelievably strong and should not be on this list but let's really think about this. Her love for Sasuke stops her from acting correctly around him; she is only seen fighting or doing something noteworthy in fairly rare occasions and feels too annoying to really be considered useful.

Those are of course, just my thoughts on her and I do realize there were moments where she was essential to the plot but she could have been much better as a character and teammate.
