2. Steamboy

By the creator of a famous anime, Akira, Steamboy is the most expensive anime movie ever produced so far.

It's not a great plot, but the amazing steampunk nd sci-fi artwork makes up for it.

3. Full Metal Alchemist

Full Metal Alchemist is mainly about a world that runs on alchemy, but the main characeter relies on prosthetic limbs, which makes it of interest to steampunk fans interested in prosthetics and robotics.

It's also just an all around great series.

4. Metropolis

Metropolis is a post-apocalyptic story with a strong enviromental message that will appeal to all fans of dystopic steampunk and science fiction.

The art is stunning.

5. Nausicaa of the Valley of The Wind

Nausicaa is another Miyazaki film.

It is a post-apocalyptic tale with an environmental message as well, about the need to respect all of earth's creatures if we are to survive.

It is fantasy with steampunk elements and a deservedly beloved film among fans of anime and animation in general.

6. Cstle in the Sky

Laputa is the last Miyazaki film on the list. This one is an adventure story about a floating island and time travel.

The title comes from Gulliver's Travels and it has literary and histroical themes with beautiful art and a rousing story.

Everyone should see Laputa at least once.

7. Samurai 7

Samurai 7 is a great mix of Japanese culture and steampunk.

It is the exciting tale of what happens when samurai are called upon to protect a Japanese village from cyborg warriors.

The production values are high, the plot is well-written, and it is a unique and fascinating anime.

8. Sherlock Hound

Take one of literature's most well-known characters and turn him and his compatriots into dogs.

You'd think that switch-up would be enough for Hayao Miyazaki, but the man loved his touches of steampunk meets Jules Verne tech, as seen in Castle in the Sky, Howl's Moving Castle, and Nadia - The Secret of Blue Water.

He wouldn't direct the latter, but instead it'd get passed off to his friend Hideaki Anno.

 

9. Unbreakable Machine-Doll

Steampunk's second favorite plot device outside of fixing gears to things is introducing alchemy and magic elements into a Victorian setting.

Unbreakable Machine-Doll combines both magic and technology to create Automatons, humanoid "puppets" brought to life to wage battles against one another at the behest of their masters.

The story takes place in alternate, early 1900s Britain where a Japanese transplant has come to study with his Automaton and get revenge against his family's murderer.
