Happy Birthday! Japanese Animation Legend Hayao Miyazaki Turns 75 Today

Happy birthday, Hayao Miyazaki! The artist and creator is celebrating his 75th birthday.

Hayao Miyazaki was born on January 5, 1941, in Tokyo, Japan. He is the founder of Japanese animation company Studio Ghibli, and the director of many of its most popular and iconic films.

Miyazaki's art shows clear, fluid motions, with an emphasis on emotions and expressiveness, and lush, evocative backgrounds.

He's probably best known for his work on the films "Princess Mononoke" and "Spirited Away."

Retired in 2013, following the release of his latest film, "The Wind Rises," Hayao Miyazaki is considered by many to be the Walt Disney of Japan.

Fans of the retired director's works are posting tribute videos and artwork to mark the occasion.

Well-known Vine animator Wahyu "Pinot" Ichwandardi created a tribute vine for the director's birthday.

Australian distributor Madman Entertainment created their own tribute in 2014 prior to Miyazaki's final film opening in theaters in North America.

"The Simpsons" honored the director that same year with much of the long-running cartoon's cast reimagined as characters from his works.

We're very lucky to have all the wonders you've made.
