Enemies of Humanity – 20 Most Hated Anime Characters of All Time

There are a lot of anime characters you are supposed to hate out there. Having a villain you can put all your hate behind is a natural choice. However, sometimes the most hated anime characters are actually the main characters of the series. Sometimes shows try to build hate, sometimes fans just hate characters for everything that they are. While sympathetic villains and morally grey heroes are infinitely more interesting, sometimes things don’t work out that way. So whether they are annoying, so evil, or just plain boring, here are our top picks for our most hated anime characters.

Shou Tucker of Fullmetal Alchemist

This is a character you were built to hate. Initially it seemed like he would just be a tragic character that would learn a valuable lesson from the main characters, or at least screw them over, and then he took a big left turn and did something completely evil to his daughter and beloved dog.

Griffith from Berserk

Griffith. That spiteful son of a bitch. Griffith is a man of ambition, and like many men of ambition, when he doesn’t get his way, he acts like a child about it. An evil child throwing a tantrum because he lost his favorite toy, that is what he is. However, perhaps it was all ordained by fate…

Gendo Ikari from Neon Genesis Evangelion

This was a tossup. Gendo is pretty bad, but his son is also pretty bad. I guess that whole family is just human trash. Shinji won’t get in the damn robot and stop masturbating to coma girls and Gendo won’t stop using women, creating clones, and playing mind games with his son.

Sasuke Uchiha from Naruto

Sasuke’s whole character has him built like a bratty child. He is infuriated because his whole clan was killed and even more so when he finds out the reason behind it. His sadness caused him to push his friends away despite Naruto also having no one. It is a classic case of “my trauma is worse than your trauma, boo hoo”. He doesn’t even redeem himself by the end. Lessons aren’t learned and he still remains a sad SOB.

Makoto Itou from School Days

I mean, I know that having sex for the first time feels great and everything, but that is no excuse to turn into a major man slut. Everything in School Days would have been prevented by just picking one girl and doing things with her. However, instead he picks all the girls and does all the things. He got what was coming to him.

Nobuyuki Sugou from Sword Art Online

It is okay to hate basically all the characters in Sword Art Online, but Sugou was the villain you were supposed to hate. He molested the best girl and all that, yes, but really what makes us hate him is the fact that he was basically checking off a checklist of things villains do to make you hate them.

Akainu from One Piece

As the main antagonist of One Piece, it is natural to hate Akainu a little bit. However, not only is he cruel, but he sees justice in terms of black and white, and it is not. He’s done terrible things like killing a whole lot of innocents just on the chance to kill one criminals, and that makes him so infuriatingly contradictory.

Tomoo from Elfen Lied

You don’t kill puppies, you little psychopath. Kill all the people you want, but dogs? Nah.

Nina Einstein from Code Geass

Nina is just awful in every single way. Her intelligence is glorified by the characters in the show when in reality she is just an egotistical and racist stalker. Even the people that support her knowing her true natural suffer for it. Also, she kind of raped a table, man.

TITANS! All of Them. from Attack on Titan

TITANS! Need we say more?

Seryu Ubiquitous from Akame ga Kill

Not unlike Akainu, Justice Bitch is meant to be hated for her cruel acts, but it is her twisted sense of justice and hypocrisy that really takes the cake. She kills and she laughs about it, but she got what was coming to her.

Slaine from Aldnoah

Although a well-written character, Slaine is the one that all Aldnoah watchers love to hate. He is set up as sympathetic because he is put into bad situations despite doing nothing wrong. However, his character becomes over emotional, indecisive, and extremely incompetent. And of course there was that last episode…

Kyubey from Madoka Magica

Oh, yeah. He starts off all cute and ready for plushie merchandising at first, but then you discover that he is the face of all evil. What’s more, the face of all evil doesn’t learn his lesson at all and really isn’t punished for it.

Haruhi Suzumiya from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

For many, the presence of Haruhi throughout the series is grating enough to force them to drop the show. She is the main character, after all, so you see her a lot. However, what is ever so more irritating than her just being a pill the entire series is that no one ever does anything about it.

Amarti from Spice and Wolf

There aren’t too many obvious villains in Spice and Wolf, and while it is wonderful that you can see a logical point of view from every villain, it doesn’t change the fact that Amarti is still a son of a bitch. While is arrogance is infuriating, Holo and Lawrence were none too saintly in his arc either.

Near from Death Note

As a character, there is nothing wrong with Near, really. However, he was put into Death Note at a bad time. He could never live up to the love and respect we had for L, yet he foiled Kira’s plans and caught him. L did all the footwork, Near gets all the glory. He is the undeserving hero of Death Note.

Excalibur from Soul Eater

Excalibur is supposed to be the legendary sword of King Arthur, so naturally he would be an awesome weapon partner, right? It all sounds so badass until you see him and, well, he is just annoying. Yes, yes, it is all one big joke, but he’s more annoying than Black Star.

Kikyo from Inuyasha

This basic bitch. Yes, you could technically sympathize with her, but many of her actions were done out of spite, which I guess is the only thing that the dead have to do. Even though she states she is no longer interested in Inuyasha, she does things to lead him on and make him generally unhappy.

Knives from Trigun

As the overarching antagonist of Trigun, you are supposed to hate Knives, but what makes him so terrible is not the fact that he killed a whole bunch of people and made his brother kill a bunch more, but it is that he uses his evil comrades like expendable tools. If you gotta be evil, at least be a bro about it.

Yukiteru Amano from Future Diary

Yukiteru was a character that was built to be a main character that you don’t really like. Throughout the show, he is pathetic and never really grows out of that. Sure, he is put into unfortunate circumstances, but he just makes things worse. Just accept that a cute girl wants to kill for you and give her the D like she wants. Oh, and stop crying!
