Geoff Johns Keeps Doomsday Clock Notes in a Replica Rorschach Journal

Not only did Geoff Johns break down the Doomsday Clock #1 preview pages in a recent video, DC Entertainment’s President & Chief Creative Officer has revealed that all of his secrets regarding the anticipated Watchmen-fueled crossover are kept in a notebook that bears a striking resemblance to Rorschach’s journal.

Johns tweeted an image of his notebook with the caption: “My #DoomsdayClock notebook — the secrets are within…” In Rebirth continuity, Rorschach’s journal has already been teased as a catalyst in the crossover. Not only is it a presence in the event’s first preview pages, a teaser for the series showcases Batman getting his hands on the iconic object.

In the Watchmen finale, Rorschach’s journal ended up at the New Frontiersman newspaper following his apparent death at the hands of Doctor Manhattan. The journal contained his suspicions about Adrian Veidt, aka Ozymandias, who turned out to be the villainous mastermind who wanted to fix humanity by destroying a major part of its population.

Johns has confirmed that the sociopolitical unrest and violent protests seen in the crossover’s preview pages were due to the world finding out about Ozymandias’ deceitful actions. While it remains to be seen if the journal played a part in the truth coming out, the prevalent use of the journal in the event’s marketing would indicate this to be the case. Of course, that doesn’t answer the question of what’s going on with Rorshach himself who somehow appears to be alive and well despite having been disintegrated…

Featuring characters like Superman, Batman and Lex Luthor, DC’s upcoming Watchmen crossover, written by Geoff Johns and drawn by Gary Frank, has its first issue out November 22, though fans willing to stay up late can purchase it from participating stores at 11:57 PM on Nov. 21; Issue #2 will arrive in late December.
