It's just a load of dumbass misunderstandings that they can't let go of. The authors done it so until all the misunderstandings are clear the actual romance story between them won't start. We'll that my opinion at least.

Yeah nevermind that comment I change my mind there's no plot progression nor any progress on the romance it's actually all going backwards instead.

The plot works for some and not all. It has some clichés in it but it's good enough
