Star Wars: Blood Ties – Boba Fett is Dead #1
“Star Wars: Blood Ties – Boba Fett Is Dead” #1 might have dewbacks and cantinas in space and stormtroopers, but do not be mistaken into thinking this is a science fiction comic. The backdrop is the Star Wars universe, itself full of science fiction tropes, but this comic is a crime study at its heart. It is also thoroughly enjoyable, if a tad predictable. Boba Fett is indeed dead, the title does not lie. We open on his recently shot corpse splayed out on barren earth and we watch the news spread across the galaxy. It seems a little silly that the death of one bounty hunter, a denizen of the shadows, would resonate to every planet amidst a galaxy that must have a population amongst the trillions but perhaps that’s testament to the mammoth size of Fett’s reputation. Or perhaps it’s ridiculous. From this set up, a hooded personification of vengeance tracks down all of the individuals involved in the murder. Why these gentlemen were shown around the crime scene on the news and how this p

Star Wars: Blood Ties: Jango and Boba Fett #2
Tom Taylor’s story of the Fett family continues in this issue, splitting time between original trilogy and prequel timelines, between Boba Fett and his “father” Jango. This issue picks up where the last left off, with Jango Fett looking himself in the face, or rather, looking at the face of himself in the form of a clone. The situation forces Jango to answer the question, “Can you shoot yourself?” The answer, however difficult or easily it comes from Jango’s mouth, has repercussions lurking behind it. Taylor’s story is a peek under the helmets of the Fetts. Jeffrey Renaud had a chat with Tom Taylor and a very special Fett-related guest right here on CBR where Taylor informed Renaud that he didn’t want to reveal too much about the Fetts for fear of spoiling their mystique. Rest assured Taylor only gives enough information to spike the intrigue of this tale through its covers. Taylor reveals that Boba definitely has some unresolved issues regarding his father and then gives Boba a mani

Star Wars: Blood Ties: Jango and Boba Fett #1
This issue is the near-perfect beginning of the story of an assassin and his son. Since his “Star Wars Holiday Special” debut, Boba Fett has been a fan favorite, recognizable to pedestrian “Star Wars” fans and celebrated by hardcore fans of the saga. When his father, Jango, was introduced in “Attack of the Clones,” fans found another character to rally behind and cheer on. Jango’s clones spawned the Clone Army of the Republic, and, in return for his genes, Jango asked for a son. This story takes a look at the relationship between father and son. This is one keen looking book. Chris Scalf has poured a lot of work onto these pages, in storytelling, layout, and detail. Jango and young Boba look astonishingly like Temuera Morrison and Daniel Logan, respectively. While there has been much ballyhoo made of photo-tracing in comics, Scalf’s artwork crosses over from photo-tracing to portraiture. The work in this single issue is on par with that of Ralph McQuarrie’s concept paintings, but wit
