ReedPOP, the organizers of such events as Emerald City Comic Con and New York Comic Con, have announced Comic Con Africa, a comic book-focused convention slated to be held at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit and International Convention Center in South Africa. The convention will run from Sept. 14 to Sept. 16. Comic Con Africa is currently accepting applications for exhibitors from the comic book, film, television, video game and collectibles industries. The convention will include guest appearances, autograph sessions, e-sports tournaments, comic book collectibles, an Artist Alley, panels and, of course, cosplay. The new Comic Con will also feature a definite focus on gaming, as Comic Con Africa was developed in partnership with VS Gaming, one of the largest tournament organizers in South Africa. As is the case with most other areas of the world, online competitive games like DOTA 2, CS:GO, Overwatch and League of Legends are all incredibly popular in South Africa. RELATED: SDCC

This year’s Emerald City Comic Con marks Brian Michael Bendis’ first major convention appearance since his move from Marvel to DC Comics, and talked the latest phase of his storied career on Friday, inside one of the large sixth-floor panel rooms at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle. It’s already been a newsworthy day for Bendis, with the announcement of his first two creator-world Jinxworld comics in his DC era — Pearl, illustrated by Jessica Jones co-creator Michael Gaydos, and Cover illustrated by longtime collaborator and Kabuki creator David Mack. Comic book fans were shocked last November with the news that Brian Michael Bendis — the most prominent Marvel creator of the past two decades — was moving to DC Comics, having signed an exclusive deal with the publisher. Friday at Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle marked the convention debut of Bendis as a DC Comics creator, making his DC panel debut with the “Write Stuff” panel, also featuring Julie Benson, Shawna Benson, Jody Houser, James Tynion IV, Mark Russell and Jeff Parker.
