August 2017 had 6,593,275 units in the top 300 comics list, an increase of 321,945 units from last month. Marvel Comics accounted for 45.33% of the total units with 2,988,705 units in the top 300 comics and was up 247,114 units in the top 300 compared to last month. DC Comics placed 2,367,694 units in the top 300 comics which accounted for 35.91% of the total units and was up 188,247 units compared to last month. DC had the three items over 100,000 units with Dark Nights: Metal #1 and Batman #28 and #29. Marvel rounded out the rest of the top ten with issues of Secret Empire, Generations: Wolverine and All-New Wolverine, Generations: Unworthy Thor and Mighty Thor and Star Wars. The premiere publishers accounted for 93.27% of the units in the top 300 comics this month while all of the other publishers with items in the top 300 accounted for 6.73% of the units. DC Entertainment will relaunch Vertigo in August 2018 to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the influential mature-readers imprint. Co-Publisher Jim Lee made the announcement today during DC’s “Meet the Publishers” panel at New York Comic Con, saying the event will involve well-known creators both writing and curating titles. However, he offered no additional details. Minosuke Bandō, Hayato Nakamura star in play that will ru in Tokyo Shueisha announced on Sunday that Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto manga is getting a kabuki play. The play will premiere in August 2018 and will run at the Shinbashi Enbujō theater in Tokyo. Minosuke Bandō (live-action Tokyo Ghoul's Uta, pictured right in above image) will play Naruto Uzumaki, and Hayato Nakamura (left) will play Sasuke Uchiha. G2 is writing and directing the play. Kishimoto launched Naruto in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1999, and ended the series in November 2014. The manga has 140 million copies printed in Japan, and 80 million copies printed outside of Japan. The series has spawned multiple anime, anime film, OVA, and game adaptations. The Naruto Shippūden anime series ended in March. The manga is inspiring a live-action Hollywood film at Lionsgate. New net anime series premieres on January 20 Takara Tomy announced at an event on Saturday that its Tomica Hyper Rescue Drive Head Kidō Kyūkyū Keisatsu (Tomica Hyper Rescue Drive Head Mobile Emergency Police) anime series is getting an anime film that will premiere in August 2018. The film will be an all-new work. Tomica Hyper Rescue Drive Head Kidō Kyūkyū Keisatsu is the first television anime inspired by Takara Tomy's long-running Tomica line of miniature toy cars. The anime premiered in Japan on April 15, and is ongoing. The Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion the Animation anime will take over the show's Saturday at 7:00 a.m. timeslot on TBS starting on January 6. This coming August, DC Comics’ Suicide Squad and Aquaman titles are slated for a two-issue crossover titled “Sink Atlantis.” The two-issue storyline, co-written by Rob Williams and Dan Abnett, and drawn by Jose Luis and Vincente Cifuentes, centers on the Suicide Squad’s latest mission to — you guessed it — Atlantis.
