Nintendo reportedly plans to appeal verdict A jury in Dallas, Texas decided in favor of iLife Technologies in its patent infringement lawsuit against Nintendo of America on Thursday. The court ordered Nintendo of America to pay US$10 million in damages to iLife for infringing on iLife's motion-sensing patents to create Wii and Wii U controllers. iLife filed the lawsuit in 2013, seeking US$144 million in damages, or US$4 for each of the $36 million Wii systems sold prior to the suit (Nintendo ended production on Wii consoles earlier that year). iLife uses to motion-sensing technology to monitor infants for sudden infant death syndrome and the elderly for falls. Nintendo's position was that iLife's patent was not properly written and therefore was invalid. A Nintendo representative told Rolling Stone that Nintendo disagrees with the verdict, and is seeking to raise the issue with the district court and court of appeals. Game runs Facebook campaign, offers 5-star Berserker Sakata Gintoki Aniplex USA announced on Thursday that the English version of the Fate/Grand Order smartphone game has reached 1 million downloads. To celebrate the milestone, the game will offer the 5-star Berserker-class Servant Sakata Gintoki for the first time. In addition, Aniplex USA will give out more prizes now that a Facebook post has reached more than 10,000 Likes and 2,000 shares. Players can also receive prizes if they log in for 13 consecutive days from September 7 to 21. Aniplex released the Fate/Grand Order smartphone game in Japan in summer 2015 and it has been downloaded more than 9 million times. The game received an English release in the United States and Canada on June 25. The game received more than 100,000 downloads in the first 12 hours after launching. This year's 40th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine is revealing on Monday that Kaiu Shirai and Posuka Demizu's The Promised Neverland manga has 1.5 million copies in print in Japan. Shirai and Demizu launched the manga in August 2016. Shueisha will publish the manga's fifth compiled volume (pictured at right) on Monday. Viz Media previewed the manga's first three chapters in English as part of its Jump Start initiative, then added the manga to the anthology's full lineup. Shueisha describes the manga: The lady I fondly call mom …is not my mom. The children I live with …are not my siblings. This is Grace Field House, a small orphanage. Film opened on 12,000 screens in largest screen count for Japanese live-action film in Chinese box office history The live-action film of Hideaki Sorachi's Gintama manga opened in China on September 1, and earned 61.39 million yuan (about US$9.37 million or about 1.03 billion yen) in its first three days. The film ranked #2 in the Chinese box office in its opening weekend. The movie is the third Japanese movie to open in Japan in 2017, after Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV and Eiga Doraemon: Nobita no Nankyoku Kachi Kochi Daibōken. Gintama also opened with the largest screen count for a Japanese live-action film in Chinese box office history, with 8,000 theaters and 12,000 screens, with 50,000 screenings per day. Naoko Yamada and Kyoto Animation's A Silent Voice anime film opened in China last Friday and earned 32 million yuan (500 million yen or about US$4.95 million) in its opening weekend. The film opened in 3,000 theaters in China, and singer Leah Dou also provided her new "See You Again" song as an insert song for the Chinese version of the film. The film opened in Japan in September 2016. Eleven Arts will screen the film in United States theaters starting on October 20. The company previously screened the film at Anime Expo in July. Naoko Yamada and Kyoto Animation's anime film is based on Yoshitoki Ōima's manga of the same name. Anime Limited screened the film in the United Kingdom and Ireland in March. Kadokawa's Dengeki Online website revealed last week that Square Enix's Final Fantasy XV game has sold an estimated 1,000,712 copies in Japan as of September 3. The number does not include digital download purchases. Final Fantasy XV went on sale worldwide for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One last November. Square Enix is developing a Windows PC version of Final Fantasy XV, as well as a smartphone and PC game titled Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition. Tabata previously teased content for the Nintendo Switch earlier during the Gamescom 2017 event in August. Square Enix released the "Episode Prompto" story DLC for the game on June 27. The new story episode is the second in a series of story episodes focusing on each of the main characters of Final Fantasy XV. An episode focused on Ignis is slated for December. Delight Works announced at a stage event at the Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair on Sunday that its Fate/Grand Order game has reached more than 10 million downloads in Japan. To celebrate, Delight Works is hosting a campaign for the game. In addition, players will receive 30 Saint Quartz if a Twitter post gets 100,000 retweets between now and September 24 at 6:00 p.m. As of press time the post has 144,000 retweets. The game's English version reached 1 million downloads earlier this month. Aniplex released the Fate/Grand Order smartphone game in Japan in summer 2015.
