Nintendo reportedly plans to appeal verdict A jury in Dallas, Texas decided in favor of iLife Technologies in its patent infringement lawsuit against Nintendo of America on Thursday. The court ordered Nintendo of America to pay US$10 million in damages to iLife for infringing on iLife's motion-sensing patents to create Wii and Wii U controllers. iLife filed the lawsuit in 2013, seeking US$144 million in damages, or US$4 for each of the $36 million Wii systems sold prior to the suit (Nintendo ended production on Wii consoles earlier that year). iLife uses to motion-sensing technology to monitor infants for sudden infant death syndrome and the elderly for falls. Nintendo's position was that iLife's patent was not properly written and therefore was invalid. A Nintendo representative told Rolling Stone that Nintendo disagrees with the verdict, and is seeking to raise the issue with the district court and court of appeals. Anime segments featuring popular characters to condense history lessons for children This year's 40th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine is revealing on Monday that Fuji TV networks will air a "FNS 27-Jikan TV Nihon no Rekishi" (FNS 27-Hour Japan's History) special on September 9 and 10, which will feature anime segments from One Piece, Dragon Ball Super, Kochikame, and Chibi Maruko-chan. The event will air from September 9 at 6:30 p.m. to September 10 at 9:30 p.m. Preview images for the special in Weekly Shonen Jump feature Kochikame's protagonist Ryō dressed as Sakamoto Ryōma, Maruko from Chibi Maruko-chan dressed in a 12-layer kimono from the Heian Era, Gohan and Trunks from Dragon Ball Super in a rice field during Japan's ancient Yayoi Period, and Luffy from One Piece on a battlefield during the Warring States Era. 1st episode to launch on PlayStation Store on September 26 Visual effects and virtual reality company Digital Domain announced on the U.S. PlayStation blog on Tuesday that it will release a cinematic VR experience titled Dreamworks Voltron VR Chronicles. The 360° VR experience will have several episodes, and the first episode, "Seeds of Corruption," will be available on the PlayStation Store on September 26. Sept. 1 marks the anniversary of legendary comic book letterer Gaspar Saladino’s birth, and in tribute the day has been christened as “Letterer Appreciation Day.” Lettering is one of the great unsung aspects of comics production, and a hugely important part of storytelling. Even the best-scripted, most carefully drawn page will fall apart without smart lettering — letterers work at the last minute, under huge pressure, and are the glue which hold comics together (or staples, to be more comics-appropriate). Romantic comedy manga about girl and brother's friend falling in love launched in 2015 A live-action film adaptation of Modomu Akagawara's Anitomo (My Brother's Friend) manga has been green-lit. The film is slated to open in spring 2018. Ryō Nakajima is directing the film, and Chieko Nakagawa is penning the script. The film stars Ryūsei Yokohama (seen below) as Sōta. The romantic comedy manga centers on the relationship between old-fashioned and domestically-minded high school girl Mai Nanase, and her brother's friend, the innocent late bloomer Sōta Nishino. Mai and her brother Yukihiro's room are adjacent to each other, with thin walls that allow them to overhear each other. The story begins when, one day, she overhears Sōta telling Yukihiro that he thinks Mai is cute. Masao Ohtake's story of super-powered girl living with young yakuza member A television anime adaptation of Masao Ohtake's Hinamatsuri manga has been green-lit for a Spring 2018 premiere. The comedy manga centers around a super-powered girl named Hina and Nitta, a young member of the yakuza. Hina suddenly appears in Nitta's room and threatens him with her extraordinary powers. However, they end up living together. Ohtake launched the manga in Enterbrain's Fellows! magazine in 2009, and the manga moved to Fellows! magazine's successor Harta. San Diego-based IDW Publishing announced plans late last year to open an office in Portland, Oregon, that would serve as the base of operations for a new imprint, Woodworks. Now the company has unveiled Full Bleed, a new comics and culture quarterly journal that will debut in December under that banner. Game shipped in N. America, Europe for PS4/Vita last October Nintendo announced during its Nintendo Direct presentation on Wednesday that Square Enix is developing a Nintendo Switch version for its Dragon Quest Builders game. The game is slated for release in spring 2018. The new version will add a Great Sabrecub that players can ride in Free build mode, which makes the player faster and gives them materials after defeating enemies.
