There are a lot of anime characters you are supposed to hate out there. Having a villain you can put all your hate behind is a natural choice. However, sometimes the most hated anime characters are actually the main characters of the series. Sometimes shows try to build hate, sometimes fans just hate characters for everything that they are. While sympathetic villains and morally grey heroes are infinitely more interesting, sometimes things don’t work out that way. The Marvel Universe is a place of unlikely friendships, where heroes who wouldn’t normally work together not only find themselves reluctant allies, but eventually genuine confidants. One of the best examples of this is the friendship between Spider-Man and Deadpool, who, much to Spidey’s chagrin, became quite close in Spider-Man/Deadpool. If you’re not a hardcore romance fan, many romance series can be terribly dull. It’s just one misunderstanding after another for drama, but there are ways to still enjoy love while also getting to enjoy an entertaining show. One of the many ways creators can sneak in a touching romance is to palce it between two mortal enemies in their action show. When two enemies find themselves falling for each other, even with distinct differences, it is particularly enticing. Will they get together? Are they fated to kill each other? You want to find out. Angel Beats While Otonashi and Angel weren’t really enemies, more so that Otonashi got pulled into the SSS Brigade, they didn’t get a long at first. When they first met, Angel actually killed him, but only because she is so literal. Friendship is occasionally complicated. Sometimes you fight about who ate most of the fries off a shared plates, and sometimes you argue over why you sacrificed your friends to become a king. Of course, in anime series where friends become enemies, the latter is probably more likely to become true. Of course, the joy is discovering whether the rift that split these friends is something they can overcome, making them compelling characters to watch interact. Code Geass The main character Lelouch and Suzaku, his friend, have a complicated relationship. They met as children, and though Suzaku initially didn’t like him, they grew to be friends. This is mirrored throughout the rest of the series as they become on and off again friends throughout the rebellion. They are quite morally opposed, however. Lelouch is willing to do whatever it takes while Suzaku is one to always prefer a more peaceful solution to things. Gungrave Much of Gungrave has t
