Power Rangers co-star Ludi Lin did an interview on Canadian radio Wednesday afternoon that revealed new information of interest to fans of both DC Comics and the Power Rangers franchise. After playing Zack, the Black Ranger, in the recent Power Rangers feature film, the Chinese-Canadian actor was cast as a comic character named Murk in Warner Bros.’ upcoming Aquaman film. Lin was in Vancouver on a break from filming Aquaman in Australia and stopped in on afternoon drive program The Ara Show before heading back. The host started with some light questions about Lin’s background, but the conversation quickly veered toward Aquaman. When asked about playing a general of the Atlantean army named Murk (introduced in DC Comics in 2013 by Geoff Johns and Paul Pelletier), Lin discussed the differences between the live-action and comic book versions. Recently, Aquaman director James Wan responded to a Patrick Wilson tweet (Wilson plays the villainous Ocean Master in the upcoming film) where Wilson himself responded to actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Black Manta) sharing an image of Aquaman having his hand sliced off by Manta, saying, “Yes. Bad guys rule.” Wan’s response to Wilson was, “Whoa. Spoiler, dude.” This, of course, got the fan community buzzing about whether this was a hint by Wan that Aquaman might lose his hand in the film. The reason why that is a realistic possibility is because Aquaman famously lost his hand in the 1990s and went “hand-less” for over a decade after first losing it. This coming August, DC Comics’ Suicide Squad and Aquaman titles are slated for a two-issue crossover titled “Sink Atlantis.” The two-issue storyline, co-written by Rob Williams and Dan Abnett, and drawn by Jose Luis and Vincente Cifuentes, centers on the Suicide Squad’s latest mission to — you guessed it — Atlantis. Captain Marvel and Bitch Planet writer Kelly Sue DeConnick will be taking over DC Comics’ Aquaman ongoing series with a story arc that co-publishers Jim Lee and Dan DiDio compare to classics like Batman: Year One. The official numbering and publication dates for DeConnick’s take over are yet to be announced, but her story is set to be a reexamination of the character’s roots. Lee described the story as a closer look at Arthur Curry’s relationship with his absent mother and the issues that particular hole in his life have created for him. Arthur will be waking up on a mysterious deserted island populated by “sea gods” who have been thrown out or otherwise forgotten by the world that once worshipped them. The repercussions from DC Comics’ Dark Nights: Metal event are leaving a lasting impact on many of the publisher’s titles, with the Source Wall’s destruction unleashing new forces in the DC Universe. Writer Scott Snyder, who also penned Metal, is continuing many of those plot points in Justice League, with Aquaman‘s incoming writer Kelly Sue DeConnick doing the same when she begins on the title. DC recently launched new imprints of their graphic novels: DC Ink, for young adult readers, and DC Zoom, for middle grade readers. Therefore, there was a lot for the creative team and talent to share at Comic-Con International’s DC Young Readers panel.
